Current Opportunities

For the following opportunities volunteers must be available during the day and make a minimum three month commitment.

Education Tutor

Each year, over 100 individuals with disabilities enrol in the Adult Education Program.  Tutors support learners on a one to one basis for 1 1/2 hours per week.

Tutors assist learners with reading, writing, mathematics or computers.  An individual training plan is provided. 

Training for tutors includes:

  • Ability awareness training specific to your learner.
  • Health and safety training.
  • Instruction on how to teach reading, writing, math and basic computer skills.
  • Computer tutorials you can access at any time to help you learn to tutor.
  • Supplementary materials such as workbooks and teaching aids are readily available. 

All tutoring takes place at the Hutton House Learning Centre in Cherryhill Village Mall.

Hutton House offers opportunities for individuals to get involved in personal training and group fitness activities.  One to one help is needed 1-2 hours per week to assist individuals to work out and get physically active.  Volunteers do not need prior fitness training or experience.  Locations include Hutton House, Fanshawe College Fitness Centre, and the Central YMCA. 

Help someone to achieve their fitness goals!


Program Assistant

Hutton House offers a wide variety of programs for individuals with disabilities.  Activities include drama, music, drawing, painting, crafts, bowling, cooking, social groups  and much more! 

Volunteers provide assistance to individuals in a group setting 2-4 hours per week.


Special Event Volunteers

Hutton House holds several events throughout the year.  Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks depending on the event.  Examples include: set up, registration, monitoring prize draws or games, taking photos, serving food, etc.  Events often take place on evenings and weekends.

When providing event support, volunteers do not need to make a 3 month commitment.

  • Completion of an Application Form.
  • A Reference Check.
  • An Interview and Tour.
  • Completion of a Background Check.
  • Placement and Orientation.
